Alannis McKee
Student, University of Alberta, 2017
Alannis McKee is an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science at the University of Alberta. Alannis’ experience is centred on community-led development and empowerment of people living with and supporting disability in the Northwest Territories. Alannis has worked extensively with the NWT Disabilities Council as an employee, contracted researcher, and Board member. Her focus has been in developing youth programming that emphasizes the elevation of disenfranchised voices in northern communities. In her most recent project supported by ICHR, Alannis worked with youth living with disability in the NWT to create a book of narratives that share individual lived experiences as an outlet to explore the resilience, successes and challenges embedded in communities. The book has officially been supported by the NWT Department of Health and Social Services to be distributed to every school, health centre and band office in the territory.
